There are three types of work permits to apply for in the Czech Republic.

They can apply for an Employee Card, which is suitable for general employment purposes, even for those without specific skills in a particular field. Alternatively, they may opt for the EU Blue Card, which is exclusively available to individuals with a degree in a specific field of work.
The process of obtaining a work permit for foreigners involves various local institutions, the companies seeking employees, and the local workforce. Work permits are granted to foreigners only after companies demonstrate that they were unable to find suitable local candidates for the job vacancy.
It's important for those considering moving to the Czech Republic for work to understand that once they have been granted a work permit for a specific job at a particular company, they are not allowed to change employers. Violating this rule renders the permit invalid.
This rule is not unique to the Czech Republic; it's a fundamental requirement for all work permits issued within the European Union (EU), as stipulated by the procedures of the European Commission (EC).
Option 1
Where and how a foreigner can apply for a Czech Republic employee blue card
The process of applying for an employee card in the Czech Republic typically begins while the foreigner is outside the country before they relocate. According to Czech immigration law, applicants should submit their applications at the Czech embassy or consulate in their home country. Alternatively, they can apply at the Czech embassy or consulate in the country where they hold permanent residency or long-term residency, provided they have resided there for at least two years.
Another option is to apply while already living in the Czech Republic. In this case, the applicant must hold a visa valid for more than 90 days, and the application is submitted directly to the Ministry of Interior, which handles all such applications. However, this applies only if the applicant entered the Czech Republic with a non-employment visa. An immigration lawyer in the Czech Republic can assist with the application process for an employee card if the applicant is already residing there.

PROCESS OF OBATINING EU BLUE CARD IN CZECH The EU Blue Card .
The EU Blue Card is a work permit available to foreigners in the Czech Republic. To qualify, applicants must have a degree in a relevant field or substantial experience in that field. Typically, applications are submitted at the Czech consulate or embassy in the applicant's country of residence, although there are exceptions.
For instance, individuals who have already relocated to the Czech Republic under a visa can apply for the EU Blue Card directly with the Czech Ministry of Interior. Similarly, if the applicant has been living in another EU member state, they can apply to the respective Ministry of Interior upon moving to the Czech Republic under this work permit.
Those relocating for employment purposes can also pursue permanent residency or Czech citizenship. However, specific criteria outlined in Czech migration laws must be met, including having a signed employment contract with a local employer and meeting minimum salary requirements set by national laws.
Supporting Documents Required to be submitted to Czech Embassy
- Application form – completed and signed by the applicant.
- Passport (valid at least 3 months after the last day of the planned stay, with at least 2 free pages).
- 3 recent passport-size photographs with white background.
- Documents proving sufficient funds to cover his/her living expenses in the Czech Republic – a bank statement of the applicant for the last three months must be submitted along with a debit card, which may used for accessing these funds in the Czech Republic.
- Documents proving the purpose of stay. This can be for example:
a) in case of employment – a work permit (to be applied for by the prospective employer at the local employment office in the Czech Republic) or at least the reference No. of your work permit application including the name of the respective employment office. - Accommodation booking (e.g. a lease contract).
- Criminal check of the applicant's home country, as well as the country in which he or she has resided for at least 6 months in the last 3 years. Please note that the validity of a Criminal Check in Ghana is only 6 months. The Embassy of the Czech Republic by § 31 art. a) of Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the Residence of Foreigners in the Czech Republic, asks all applicants for long-stay visas and long-term permits who will submit applications at this embassy to submit a document similar to an extract from a criminal record issued by the State of which the applicant is a national and the same document issued by the States where the applicant has been living continuously in the last 3 years for more than 6 months, or an affidavit if that State does not issue such a document.
- Health insurance
Travel health insurance covers medical expenses, including emergency hospital treatment and repatriation, for the entire duration of the stay in the Czech Republic. The document is not required for the visa procedure itself, nevertheless, it is necessary to present it on collection of the appropriate visa.
