During a media availability, the Honourable Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, Marc Miller, discussed new regulations pertaining to international students' off-campus employment hours in Canada.

Minister Miller declares that starting in September 2024, overseas students will be able to work an additional 20 hours off-campus during class sessions. Up until September, when the government can permanently change it to make it 24 hours, the workweek restriction will be limited to 20 hours.

Overseas students are not limited in how many hours they can work during summer and winter breaks. The existing temporary full-time work policy will not be extended after April 30, 2024. T

his media availability by Minister Miller is coming at the time when the full-time working hours temporary policy is set to expire on April 30. So it is clear that the event aims to clarify the government’s stance on whether the temporary policy allowing some international students to work off-campus for more than 20 hours per week will be extended or not.
